What is wellbeing?
Find out about wellbeing in your community
In this section we provide an overview of wellbeing in Western Australia (WA) and some free tools to help you find data on wellbeing in your community. We also explain how wellbeing connects to Lotterywest and Healthway’s Community Investment Framework.
What is wellbeing?
Wellbeing is much broader than just your moment-to-moment happiness. Wellbeing comes from belonging to a connected community, being happy and healthy, living in great environments and being part of a society that is able to grow and develop.
Lotterywest and Healthway exist to help build a better, healthier WA. We do this by addressing the five wellbeing categories: Inclusive thriving community, Connected cultural experiences, Protected sustainable ecosystems, Smart innovative society and Active healthy people.
We keep an eye on indicators to see how WA is tracking in each of the wellbeing categories. These wellbeing indicators help us to identify opportunities for positive change and inform our grantmaking.
Lotterywest Funding Programs
Lotterywest has three grant programs that enable us to invest in WA's wellbeing.
Grassroots and Community Initiatives
To help build stronger and healthier communities by supporting local activities and regional community initiatives
To assist the development of solutions that will have a greater community impact
To invest in collaborative initiatives that will make lasting and significant change for the community
Healthway Funding Programs
Healthway also have a number of funding programs which focus on supporting different aspects of healthy, thriving communities.
Healthy Partnership Program
Funding to sports, arts, racing and community events to provide healthy environments, and to educate and promote good health.
Healthy Spaces Program
Funding that focuses on providing healthy environments in sport and recreation settings.
Healthy Communities Program
Funding for health promotion projects within our community.
Healthy Research Program
Funding for health promotion research that builds the evidence base and builds research capacity through fellowships and scholarships.
The Community Investment Framework brings our Lotterywest and Healthway funding programs together under our common purpose, and articulates the five wellbeing categories to help us to focus our grant-making and achieve outstanding social impact in our community.
Each category has a set of key outcomes that we support through our grant programs across Lotterywest and Healthway. You can see these outcomes by downloading our Community Investment Framework.
Acknowledgement of Country
The Western Australian Community Impact Hub acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are based, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and extends that respect to all the Traditional Owners and Elders of this country. We recognise the significant importance of their cultural heritage, values and beliefs and how these contribute to the positive health and wellbeing of the whole community.
